Scotty Claus and the Elves Present: Green Christmas tips!
- Make your own decorations! Popcorn strings, cut outs mounted on cardboard, foil wrapped tree shapes and more. Invite your friends and family over to help you create a customized tree.
- Unplug your lights! When you leave the house or go to sleep at night, unplug your lights from the outlet. This goes for standard or our favorite LED lights.
- Skip greeting cards and send out an electronic greetings instead
- Reusing greeting cards: Give your old greeting cards a second life by making them into gift tags. Cut them into rectangles, hole-punch, and voila! Instant tags for every gift!
- Go car-free! When picking up last-minute grocery items like a quart of eggnog or cinnamon sticks consider walking or biking. You automatically reduce your carbon emissions by biking, walking, or even taking the bus to run your holiday errands.
- Shop online (you can even search online for coupons)
- Do you like to collect a new ornament every year? Consider purchasing a fair-trade ornament made by communities in developing countries or even in your own backyard. Better still, how about hosting a Ornament Trading party with friends and family and swapping ornaments?
- Create a new family tradition! Make a day of volunteering together at the local shelter, serving meals to the less-fortunate or visiting local nursing homes and hospitals.
- Create your own holiday gift wrap using paper bags, old maps, newspapers, leftover wallpaper, scarves
- Create your own gifts! Create a photo album, a recipe book, plant a tree, give seeds for a garden or consider easy to put together kitchen gifts such as Vanilla Sugar
- And don’t forget to order your Living Christmas tree today!
